Manchester:

A late header by substitute Antoine Sibierski earned Manchester City a deserved 1-1 draw with Leeds United in the English Premier League on Monday. City, who climb into a share of 11th in the table despite nine consecutive games without a win, dominated throughout but only levelled the scores in the 82nd minute. Leeds went ahead through a first-half goal from Mark Viduka. Belying their position down near the foot of the table, Leeds might have taken the lead as early as the sixth minute had Mark Viduka not wasted a golden chance. An Ian Harte free kick left him unmarked inside the six-yard box but his effort went just wide of the post. But it was Viduka who put Leeds ahead in the 24th minute, against the run of play, taking advantage of a defensive blunder by David Sommeil. Sommeil failed to control a James Milner through ball on the edge of the box and Viduka - one on one against David Seaman - rounded the 'keeper for his fourth league goal of the season. City dominated the rest of the half and had their best opportunity to equalise in the 41st minute when the dangerous Nicolas Anelka found Claudio Reyna unmarked just eight yards out. Reyna, recalled for the out-of-form Trevor Sinclair, shot goalwards but defender Michael Duberry cleared the ball off the line. City were again the better side after the halftime break and looked to have equalised through midfielder Joey Barton. But his stunning 20-yard strike, which had Paul Robinson beaten, hit the inside of the left-hand post and rolled along the goalline - with none of the home side able to capitalise on the loose ball. But City finally levelled the scores eight minutes from time - Antoine Sibierski driving home a header after a cross from the right by Sun Jihai for his first league goal for the club. In the final few minutes both sides scrambled for possession. City again looked the more dangerous - but a long shot by Reyna wasn't good enough for the home team. (AP)
