Mahindra United score a 3-0 victory against Indian Telephone Industries, Bangalore and enter the final of the Durand Cup football tournament.

New Delhi:

Three second half strikes powered Mahindra United to a 3-0 victory against Indian Telephone Industries, Bangalore here today and into the final of the Durand Cup football tournament. The glamour Mumbai outfit booked a meeting on February 16 against the winner of the second semi-final between Kolkata's East Bengal and Goa's Zee Churchill to be played tomorrow. While right out Julies Alberto Dias fired the first salvo in 16th minute of second session, substitute S Venkatesh scored the second in 80th minute of play. Nigerian Auston Okolo made the issue safe a minute before the final whistle. In a match with fluctuating fortunes, ITI had things under control for most of the first half. The Bangalore side moved better in comparison and kept possession a lot more than the Mahindra did. Despite getting several scoring opportunities in the first half, ITI men did not get their connection right because of poor finish and a couple of good saves by rival custodian. And they had to pay heavy price for that as Mahindra made a remarkable comeback in the second session to break the deadlock. A determined effort by Mahindra, the winner in 1998 and runners-up in 1990 and 2000, saw them combining well in the forward line while the midfield, which was ineffective in first half, also rose to the occasion.
