France's top two teams, and top two coaches, met at Olympique Lyonnais' Stade de Gerland on Saturday - the winner would take control at the top of Ligue 1. Visitors Monaco led Lyon by one point going into the clash. Lyon looked eager to change that as Sylvain Wiltord forced Monaco goalkeeper Flavio Roma into action early on. It took a shy Monaco until the second half for their first meaningful assault on the Lyon goal. Togo's Emmanuel Adebayor struck his 57th minute volley well, but this time Lyon's French international 'keeper Grigory Coupet provided the resistance. Didier Deschamps then saw his team reduced to 10 men after 60 minutes - Uruguayan midfielder Diego Perez walked after his second yellow card. The league leaders were left to hold on for a draw as Lyon pressed. First Michael Essien's volley was deflected over the Monaco crossbar. And then, with 15 minutes to go, Florent Malouda's free-kick dropped to Mahamadou Diarra but the Mali midfielder was denied by a brilliant stop from Roma. The Italian goalkeeper was immense as Monaco held on for a point, and held on to their one-point lead at the top of France's Ligue 1. (AP)
