Star midfielder Juninho helps Lyon beat Lens 1-0 in the French Ligue 1.

Lyon:

Lyon continued their march to the French Ligue 1 title on Saturday as a goal from star midfielder Juninho was enough to see them to a 1-0 victory over Lens. The win keeps them 13 points clear of Lille, who crushed Istres 8-0. Before Lyon could welcome PSV Eindhoven to the Gerland Stadium for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, the French champions had to try and take care of another three league points against Lens. It was a frustrating first half for the home team. But on 65 minutes an under strength Lyon team took the lead through one of their stars. Brazilian Juninho capitalised on poor defending from the visitors and fired home from close range for his 11th league goal of the season. There was a scare for the home fans in the closing stages, as Lens came agonisingly close to equalising, only to see Ferreyra Jussiei's header come back off the crossbar, despite eluding Michael Essien's desperate leap. The 1-0 victory moves Lyon that little bit closer to securing their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title, while Lens drop back to 10th on the table. (AP)
