Signing off

With this game, Matchweek 4 comes to an end. Now, there will be a break for a few days and the action in Hero ISL 2022-23 will resume on Thursday, 3rd November as FC Goa get ready to host Jamshedpur FC. Do join us at 7.30 pm IST for all the action. Until then, it's goodbye and cheers!

Awards

Jamshedpur FC receive the Club Award for winning this match. For scoring the only goal of the evening and being solid in defense, skipper Peter Hartley is given the Hero of the Match Award.

First win of the season for JFC!

Jamshedpur FC have outclassed NorthEast United FC to earn their first win of the Hero ISL 2022-23 and in the process, they have handed NEUFC their fourth defeat of this season. JFC dominated the game in the first half and found the opening goal in the 31st minute when Peter Hartley found the bottom right corner with his little toe poke. The story remained the same in the second half as well, as Jamshedpur FC kept on attacking and spent most of their time in the NEUFC half. Although their search for the insurance goal remained unfulfilled, the JFC defense stood tall and never allowed any opening to NEUFC. That said, the attacking game of NorthEast United FC was quite disappointing however they upped the ante in the end moments and forced an acrobatic save from Rehenesh TP. With this win, JFC shoot up to number 6 on the table and will hope to launch a winning momentum from here.

90'

Full time

The referee blows the final whistle and JFC bag all three points.

90'

Just over!

So unfortunate. Michael Jakobsen almost gets the goal which they were looking for. He pulls the trigger from outside the box but it goes past the frame of the goal. Just by inches.

90'

Foul

Peter Hartley fouls Parthib Gogoi as the latter tries to receive the ball and sprint down the right flank. NEUFC take a quick free kick but still no final product.

88'

Yellow Card

90'

Added time

The officials have added 5 minutes of added time. Will NEUFC be able to steal at least one point?

88'

Missed a golden opportunity.

It is still 1-0 in this half. Parthib Gogoi is one-on-one with the keeper. He tries to skip past the keeper but falls on the ground in the process. No penalty though. At the other end of the park, Daniel Chukwu gets the ball and swings it inside the box from the left flank, beats the defenders and finds Jay Thomas at the far post but he fails to keep his shot on target.

87'

Substitution

85'

Play halted

Ricky Lallawmawma is down on the ground. He seems to be in some pain. The physio comes in to have a look and suggests the manager to make a change. Hopefully, it is not very serious.

83'

Could not take advantage

Mirshad Michu runs out of his line to collect the ball but he makes a meal of it and gives away possession to Daniel Chukwu, who though failed to capitalize on the opportunity. JFC continue their search for the insurance goal.

82'

Lack the final touch

NEUFC have come out with the right intent in this half. They are trying to attack a bit more by pushing more men forward, although they are finding it difficult to send it past the keeper. Will NEUFC find the equalizer?

80'

Substitution

Substitution - NorthEast United FC (In: Rochharzela, Out: Imran Khan)

78'

No danger

A delightful switch from the right to the left flank. Imran Khan gets the ball at his feet. He puts in a cross inside the box but Rehenesh TP plucks it out of thin air with some ease.

74'

More fresh legs

JFC make a couple of more changes. Ishan Pandita and Jitendra Singh have been employed now as Ritwik Das and Boris Singh have run their race for the evening.

73'

Missed opportunity

A loopy ball is served inside the box and it finds the feet of Parthib Gogoi who tries to hit it on the volley but fails to keep it on target. Need to do better with these chances. NEUFC need the equalizer sooner rather than later to keep themselves in the game.

71'

Alert defending

A through ball from the middle of the park is aimed for Emil Benny's run in the right flank but Ricky Lallawmawma is alert and reaches the ball first to stop the attack in its tracks.

69'

Substitutions

NEUFC are trailing in the game and have now made a couple of changes. Emil Benny and Parthib Gogoi come in for Joe Zoherliana and Jithin M.S. Can they do any magic?

69'

69'

Substitution

Substitution - NorthEast United FC (In: Parthib Gogoi, Out: Jithin M.S)

68'

Muscle power

Daniel Chukwu shows his strength there. He is served the ball inside the box on the left side. He holds back 3-4 defenders and manages to turn past them but then his attempted cross hits one of the defenders and the attack stops there. Appeal for a handball but it's not entertained.

66'

Poor choice

NEUFC have been lacklustre in the attacking third. Jithin M.S is served the ball on the right flank and he tries to do something on his own. Jithin sprints across, trying to break into the box but he spends too much time on the ball and gets dispossessed.

63'

Excellent run

Daniel Chukwu grabs the ball in the right flank and runs forward. He sends in the cross, inside the box, to find Jay Thomas but his first touch is heavy and the NEUFC defenders get together to avert the danger.

Substitution

A change for JFC now. Fresh legs brought on by the manager. Harry Sawyer makes way for Jay Thomas.

56'

A probing cross!

Imran Khan once again finding some inspiration with the ball on his feet. He forces a save from Rehenesh TP and earns a corner kick. Nothing comes off it though.

53'

Almost 2-0

JFC are picking things up from where they left off. They are spending most of the time in the NEUFC half. Daniel Chukwu gets the ball at the far post. He tries to create space for himself, which he does successfully in a crowded penalty box, although is unable to get his shot away. A vital intervention from Michael Jakobsen there to make the clearance.

51'

Almost a blunder!

Much better from NEUFC! Imran Khan has been a vital part of the NEUFC attack throughout the game so far. Once again, he is the one who finds some pace and tries to bother the opposition keeper. He has a go from distance, the ball bounces a couple of times before reaching the keeper. Rehenesh TP needed two attempts to grab the ball safely.

48'

Not the best header

Wellington Cirino Priori takes the corner kick and sends in a loopy ball at the far post. Pratik Chaudhari gets a free header but he miscues his direction as it goes at the opposite end, almost from where it came. Need to do better with these chances.

46'

Resumption

We're back! Both teams are ready to go. The referee blows the whistle and JFC get us underway here. They will be attacking from right to left in this half. Will they be able to extend their lead?

A one-sided half!

JFC go into the break as the happier side. They have been the dominant team and have a slender lead of 1-0. NEUFC hardly created any chances. They lacked creativity in the final third and would hope to come back with a revived intent after the break. JFC had most of the ball and kept knocking at the door consistently. Then it was Peter Hartley, the skipper of JFC, who broke the deadlock in the 31st minute. Jamshedpur FC will be aiming to get the next goal and make things tougher for the opposition. An enticing second half coming up shortly. Stay tuned.

45'

Half time

The referee blows the whistle and the first half comes to an end. JFC lead 1-0.

45'

Added time

Two minutes have been added to this half. Can JFC defend their lead or will NEUFC find a way to equalize?

44'

Flies over again

Yet another throw-in to set up things. It's lobbed inside the box and the NEUFC defender gets a heavy touch. The ball rolls away from him and Ritwik Das tries to attack. He puts his laces through the ball but fails to keep it on target.

40'

Up and over

Farukh Choudhary tries to run forward with the ball but he runs into a wall of defenders and gets dispossessed. The clearance though is poor and Wellington Cirino Priori gets the chance to have a long-range shot. He shoots but it flies over the crossbar.

34'

Almost the equalizer

Jamshedpur FC survive and keep their lead. The move develops from a strong throw-in from Aaron Evans from the right side. He sends it flying near the first post, aiming to find Matt Derbyshire but he misses and Daniel Chukwu ends up flicking it behind. Rehenesh TP is beaten but to his good luck, Jithin M.S fails to get his head on it. A narrow escape.

31'

GOAAALLLLL

JFC take the lead. They deserved a goal and have finally got one. It is the skipper, Peter Hartley who finds the back of the net. Wellington Cirino Priori whips in a delicious ball into the box from the corner kick. Harry Sawyer leaps the highest and heads it towards the goal. Peter Hartley near the back post deflects the loose ball and sends it past the keeper.

30'

28'

Good save!

JFC continue to dominate the proceedings. NEUFC are kept on the back foot here most of the time. A loopy ball is played at the edge of the box and Harry Sawyer chests it down. He lays it off for Daniel Chukwu who has a shot from outside the box. Mirshad Michu does well and dives to his left to grab the ball.

24'

Positive signs!

NEUFC are growing into the game here. A few extra white shirts are pushing forward. Imran Khan has the ball on the left flank. He tries to whip in a cross but shoots it wide. Excellent from Laldinliana Renthlei who tracked the movement and hurried Khan.

21'

Away from the target

A rare chance for NEUFC this time. The ball comes flying towards Imran Khan inside the box but he fires it over the frame of the goal. They need to get more clinical in the attacking third as the chances are coming very few.

20'

No final product!

Lots of attack coming from the left side for JFC. Ritwik Das gets the ball on the left flank. He sends a delivery towards the back post but there is no one at the end of it. It goes out for a goal kick eventually.

17'

Half a chance!

JFC continue to knock at the door. Harry Sawyer gets the ball inside the box on the left side. He shifts it to his right foot but fires a wayward shot across the goal. It goes out of play.

16'

Foul by Sawyer

JFC win a corner kick on the left side. Wellington Cirino Priori swings it inside the box and the giant frame of Harry Sawyer jumps to unfurl his header. However, he ends up fouling Michael Jakobsen and the referee is there to spot it.

13'

Hits the wall

Daniel Chukwu is brought down just outside the box and JFC earn a free kick. Farukh Choudhary steps up to take the set piece but bangs it straight into the wall. The ball then deflects out. JFC do find a way again to set Boris Singh free inside the box but he tries to find Daniel Chukwu instead of going for the shot himself and the NEUFC defender intercepts to make the clearance.

11'

Off target

Again it's from Farukh Choudhary. The move develops from the middle of the park and Boris Singh is passed on the ball in the right flank. He runs forward and then attempts a cross inside the box which gets headed out. Farukh Choudhary latches onto the loose ball, again attempts a long-range shot but drags it wide.

8'

Failed attempt

A poor clearance from NEUFC means that the ball is rolling loosely outside the box. Farukh Choudhary attacks it and attempts a long-range shot but fails to get the connection right. Both teams still trying to gain some rhythm.

8'

Too much power

Jon Gaztanaga pushes the ball forward to find Jithin M.S but Farukh Choudhary is alert and takes the ball away from his feet. Choudhary attempts to pass it to the right flank but his delivery is overcooked and goes out of play.

5'

Getting a sense

Both teams have been quite sedate in their approach so far. The game is played mainly in the midfield and we are still waiting for a real chance to build. NEUFC do try that but Jithin M.S is caught in an offside position. Slow start to the game but both teams have the potential to step up.

2'

Early move

Daniel Chukwu is played the ball inside the box but Mashoor Shereef follows him like a shadow and doesn't allow Chukwu to turn with the ball. The JFC forward has no other option but to play it back.

1'

Let's Football

It's time to get the ball rolling. NEUFC get the first touch on the ball. They will be running from right to left in the first half. As far as the formation is concerned, JFC have opted for 4-4-2 whereas NEUFC are going with a 5-3-2 combination. Here we go...

Toss

The coin goes up and lands in favour of NEUFC. They will get this game started here and attack from right to left.

National Anthem

Both the teams stride out to the middle and line up for the Indian national anthem. We are moments away from kick-off.

NorthEast United FC (Starting XI)

Mirshad Michu (GK), Gurjinder Kumar, Michael Jakobsen (C), Mashoor Shereef, Joe Zoherliana, Aaron Evans, Imran Khan, Jon Gaztanaga, Emanuel Lalchhanchhuaha, Jithin M.S, Matt Derbyshire.

Jamshedpur FC (Starting XI)

Rehenesh TP (GK), Ricky Lallawmawma, Peter Hartley (C), Pratik Chaudhari, Laldinliana Renthlei, Wellington Cirino Priori, Boris Singh, Ritwik Das, Harry Sawyer, Daniel Chukwu, Farukh Choudhary.

Looking for a change!

JFC topped the league stage in the Hero ISL 2021-22 but the catalyst to that sensational run was Greg Stewart who has now joined MCFC. JFC haven't been able to replace him this season and hence have lacked a bit of creativity. They have also had a change of coach which means that the playing style has also changed. Jamshedpur FC still have a lot of quality individuals and the likes of Chukwu, Boris and Pandita can turn the game on its head at any point in time. On the flip side, NEUFC made it to the playoffs in Hero ISL 2020-21 but everything has gone a bit downhill from there. They weren't at the top of their game in Hero ISL 2021-22 and three losses to start this season haven't helped their cause. They need to go all out and gun for all three points in order to kick-start their campaign otherwise they would fall a bit too much behind in the playoffs race. They have a few exciting homegrown individuals who need a bit of push and a few goals under their belt to show their worth. The two times these two sides faced each other in Hero ISL, 2021-22, JFC managed to edge out Hyderabad FC. Let's hope for a close game, and the recent history suggests that we can witness plenty of goals this evening.

Super Sunday!

It is now time for the final game of Matchweek 4 and it is a clash between Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United FC at the JRD Tata Sports Complex, Jamshedpur. The two sides currently are at the foot of the points table with JFC getting 1 point in the two games they have played and NEUFC are at the rock bottom with 3 losses out of 3. Something has got to give in this game and we have noticed in the Hero ISL time and again that when the pressure is high, it brings out the best in teams. Will either side be able to get its first win and get a bit of momentum going?
