Florence: A first-half goal by French striker Dagui Bakari gave Lille a 1-0 victory against a depleted Fiorentina in the first leg of their third round UEFA Cup match in Italy on Thursday. Fiorentina tried to counter rapidly and they nearly equalized two minutes later through Portuguese international Nuno Gomes, but his attempted lob was saved by the keeper. The French side nearly doubled their lead just after the break, but Christophe Landrin's shot was saved. The home side had one last chance to draw in the 90th minute, but Nuno Gomes's effort was wide again.
