La Paz:

Ronald Gutierrez scored in the 72nd minute to give The Strongest a 1-0 victory on Wednesday over the Brazilian Goias EC, allowing the Bolivians to share second place in Group 3 of the Copa Libertadores. Gutierrez took advantage of a free kick by his teammate Alejandro Mena by shooting hard and below the goalie Harlei. Goias had outplayed The Strongest, holding the ball for more time while seeking to overcome an archrival. The Strongest has equaled Union Espanola with six points, although they have played five games while the Chileans have played only four. Goias is still the top of its group with 10 points in five games, meanwhile Newell's Old Boys of Argentina remain at four points with one less match played. (AP)
