Edson Uribe converted an 81st-minute penalty kick and Ciencieno won 3-2 over Bolivar in the Bolivian capital to close within a point of the lead in the Copa Libertadores' Group 7.

Brazilian Thiago Leitao scored twice, the last in the 67th to equalise for Bolivar.

The victory gave Peru's Cienieno six points from four matches, one behind Group leader Boca Juniors and just ahead of Toluca on goal difference.

Bolivar remained last with four points. Leitao gave Bolivar the lead in the 12th minute before Juan Carlos Marino in the 34th and Juan Gonzales put in the 64th rallied Cienciano.

Leitao's second tied the game and set up Uribe for his winner.

Cienciano next will play Boca at home but face Toluca in Mexico. Bolivar will play Toluca in La Paz. The game was intense and disputed.

Bolivar applied pressure but failed to take advantage of its opportunities, including a shot by Gabriel Viglianti that hit the post. But Cienciano also missed chances to boost its tally.
