Madrid: Real Madrid suffered another embarrassing home defeat on Sunday as they were beaten 1-0 by struggling Levante. Salva Ballesta scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in the 11th minute, after Damiano Tommasi was brought down by Mahamadou Diarra. Real were playing their 1000th league match at the Bernabeu, but the defeat piled further pressure on the club's under-fire president Ramon Calderon and coach Fabio Capello. Olivier Kapo, showing great power and pace, raced into the Madrid area before laying the ball back to Damiano Tommasi. The Italian was scythed down by Mahamadou Diarra. Ballesta's first goal From the resulting penalty - which unfortunately was missed by the on-site television director - recent signing Salva Ballesta slotted home his first goal for his new team. The home side almost pulled level in the 37th minute, Ruud van Nistelrooy's dipping effort went narrowly wide of the goal. But that was as good as it got for Real in a poor first half. Fabio Capello made his displeasure clear after his side had two penalty claims turned down by referee Alvarez Izquierdo after challenges on both Raul and van Nistelrooy in the penalty area. With the Bernabeu crowd becoming increasingly irate, substitute Robinho limped out of the action to be replaced by Miguel Angel Nieto. And Nieto almost made himself an instant hero when he latched onto Van Nistelrooy's through-ball, before seeing his shot ricochet back off the crossbar. Van Nistelrooy's follow-up shot was then cleared off the line. In the 80th minute, the Dutchman fired wide again after being set up by Raul.
