Leeds:
Leeds drew Preston 1-1 on Friday in the first round of the promotion playoffs to decide who will be playing in the English Premier League next season. Back from a broken bone in his foot, David Nugent fired Preston ahead three minutes into the second half at Elland Road in the first leg of a matchup of two of the four teams who finished behind already promoted Reading and Sheffield United. But Leeds replied 16 minutes from the end when Kevin Blackwell's team was awarded a free kick just outside the Preston area. Eddie Lewis, the US international midfielder who moved to Leeds this season after three terms at Preston, bent a free kick which brushed off the head of Preston defender Graham Alexander into the top corner at the near post. The second leg is at Preston on Monday. In the playoff final at Millennium Stadium on May 21, the winner will face either Watford or Crystal Palace. They meet in the first leg on Saturday.
