Le Mans, Lens draw 1-1

Le Mans:

It was a case of third versus eleventh when Lens travelled to face Le Mans in a Ligue 1 match on Sunday.Unbeaten in their last six league outings, the visitors were hoping to pick up maximum points to maintain their challenge for the French title. But with Le Mans proving to be hard to beat on their home ground, it was always going to be a difficult match. It was the home side who had the brighter start and threatened to go ahead inside twenty minutes.Grafite seemed to have put his side ahead when he fired the ball past keeper Charles Itandje, but he was adjudged to have been off-side by the linesman and the score remained 0-0.But it wasn't long before the home fans did have something to celebrate.Stephane Sessegnon blasted onto a reverse ball from Mathieu Coutadeur before threading it through for Ismael Bangoura, who fired it into the back of the net to take the score to 1-0.Lens were back to level terms however in the 42nd minute when Olivier Thomert skipped through the Le Mans defence and volleyed the ball over keeper Rodolphe Roche, making the score one-all.The hosts had the better of the second half, with several chances to put themselves ahead once more.First, Daisuke Matsui looked to have broken the deadlock, only for his shot to skim across the face of the goal. Then first half scorer, Bangura, found himself unable to control a cross from Matsui and saw his shot soar over the cross bar. The 1-all draw means Lens stay third in Ligue 1.(AP)
