New Delhi:
In a repeat of last year's semi final at the Santosh Trophy, this year too saw Kerala take on Services. Wanting to avenge their 3-2 defeat at the hands of Kerala last year, Services tried hard to dent their defence but were unsuccessful, with Abdul Naushad giving Kerala the lead in the 28th minute. Things weren't going too well for Services who were down to 10 players after M Reghu Kumar was given a red card for committing a foul. Four time winners Kerala then consolidated their lead in injury time, thanks to the effort of substitute player Naushad Pari. Winning spree With Kerala now making it into the final of the Nationals for the fourth time in a row, they now play either defending champions Manipur or Punjab. "Manipur is a very good team, almost like a national team, so the finals will be difficult, but we will give it our best shot," said IM Vijayan, former Captain of the Indian team. Kerala may have won the match 2-0 but the day also belonged to this man. Services goalkeeper A Abungobi Singh who frustrated Kerala, as he brought off some stunning saves, quite deservingly won the 'Man of the Match' award.Topics mentioned in this article
