Juventus maintains Serie A lead

Rome:

Newly promoted Messina upset defending champion AC Milan 2-1 at San Siro, while Juventus continued its perfect start to the season and remained alone atop the standings after a full slate of Serie A matches. Playing in the top division for the first time in 39 years, Messina won courtesy of Riccardo Zampagna's diving header in the 59th minute off a perfect cross from defender Alessandro Parisi. Zampagna also kicked in the winning shot in a 4-3 win against AS Roma on Sunday. Juventus, already looking like a clear front-runner, got goals in a 3-0 win against Sampdoria from its three world-class strikers - Alessandro Del Piero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Trezeguet. Juventus is the only team to win its first three games and leads the league with a full nine points. Lazio, which beat lowly Brescia 2-0, and Messina share second with seven points each. Newly promoted Cagliari comes next with six points after beating Siena 2-0 in Sardinia. (AP)
