Bergamo, Italy:

Half-strength Italy was held to a 1-1 draw by Turkey in a friendly on Wednesday, with both goals coming from mishaps. Antonio Di Natale put Italy ahead in the 39th minute, taking advantage of an error by substitute goalkeeper Volkan Demirel. Demirel had the ball in his hands and slipped as he was about to kick it upfield. The ball trickled right to Di Natale and the Udinese forward easily scored his second goal in eight appearances. Three minutes later, an own-goal by Marco Materazzi leveled the game. Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro lost the ball in the area and Ibrahim Uzulmez sent in a cross from the left flank that Materazzi redirected in on a futile clearing attempt. Italy was without several regulars, either through injury or simply for rest. Among the missing for the world champions were Luca Toni, Alessandro Del Piero, Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso and Fabio Grosso. Italy is now 2-2-2 since winning its fourth World Cup title in July. Donadoni used his entire roster and made nine substitutions, including Marco Amelia for Gianluigi Buffon in goal at halftime. Turkey removed captain Hakan Sukur for the final half hour and replaced eight players in all. (AP)
