Dubai:
Iran will play Ireland for a place in next year's World Cup finals after beating the United Arab Emirates 3-0 in the second leg of their Asian zone qualifier for a 4-0 aggregate victory. Iran will travel to Dublin for the first leg on November 10 with the second leg likely to be in Tehran on November 15. The matches will be the first between the two countries since Ireland beat Iran 2-1 in an invitational tournament in 1972 in Recife, Brazil. Sultan Rasheed Saeed's prayers didn't bring any luck to the UAE as they took on Iran in a world Cup play off as Kazim Ali's attempt for UAE failed to find the goal. Iran took the lead in the seventh minute. Ali Daei curled a brilliant free-kick around the wall and past UAE goalkeeper Abdulla. Iran's midfielder Jamshidi was sent off for a second bookable offence after only 15 minutes. The UAE got another chance but defender Jaleel Abdul Rahman's shot was brilliantly saved by Ali Karimi and in the 53rd minute Rahman was sent off for a foul on Daei - his second bookable offence. Iran scored another goal in the 75th minute, this time from Karim Bagheri after a goalmouth scramble. Iran were 2-0 leaving the UAE coach Tini Ruijs scratching his head. And four minutes later, Mehrdad Minavand got Iran their third goal with a powerful right-foot shot.Topics mentioned in this article
