Last season's Champions' League semi finalists Villarreal crashed out of the Intertoto Cup on Saturday. The loss followed a bad-tempered one-all second leg draw with Maribor of Slovenia that saw three of Villarreal's players sent off. Alessio Tacchinardi was the first to receive his marching orders in the 80th minute. Gonzalo Rodriguez was red-carded with a minute to go and former Manchester United forward Diego Forlan was ejected for throwing a punch at Martin Pregelj. In between, Turkish international Kahveci Nihat had given Villarreal some hope with a well-struck opener. But after Fabijan Cipot had equalised for Maribor in the 89th minute, the Spanish side lost its discipline completely - Maribor going through to the UEFA Cup second qualifying draw 3-2 on aggregate.
