Madrid:

Real Madrid's David Beckham has been ruled out of a second successive game due to a right hamstring injury. Beckham was left out of Madrid's 18-player squad for the league visit to Zaragoza. The star midfielder was also absent for Madrid's 3-1 victory over Racing de Santander on Saturday, the first time he missed a league match since joining Real Madrid in June. Beckham sustained the injury during practice last week and aggravated it during a 1-0 Champions League victory over Partizan Belgrade last Wednesday. Madrid coach Carlos Queiroz said he wasn't prepared to take any risks with Beckham. "We didn't want to take one step forward and three steps back. It was better to take a decision and I think he will have recovered by Saturday," said Queiroz. Madrid hosts Athletic de Bilbao in a league game on Saturday. Madrid, which is in second place in the Spanish league, will replace Deportivo de La Coruna at the top of the standings for at least 24 hours if it beats Zaragoza. (AP)
