Indonesia scored a shock 2-1 victory over Qatar on Sunday to bolt to the top of the Asian Cup Group A standings.

Indonesia scored a shock 2-1 victory over Qatar on Sunday to bolt to the top of the Asian Cup Group A standings. Indonesia's victory, coupled by hosts China's opening match draw with Bahrain a day earlier means the southeast Asian side are now two points clear after their first group match. Unfazed by their more fancied opponents, Indonesia struck first in the 26th minute when 13 Budi Sudarsono took this ball from 22 Agus Agus Kurniawan and scored to make it 1-0. That one goal held into the second half. Indonesia race ahead Then three minutes after the re-start Indonesia struck again when Punaryo Astaman launched his strike past Qatar keeper Abdulaziz Abdulla to make it 2-0. Qatar whipped up the pressure and finally found the back of the net in the 83rd minute - substitute Magid Mohammed knocking home Ali Fartoos' pass to pull one back. But with just seven minutes left, Qatar could not find the equaliser. Indonesia held on to win 2-1 and now top Group A with three points. Meanwhile, there were surprises as well in Group C as play got underway in the Chinese city of Chengdu, with Asian powerhouses Saudi Arabia held to a 2-2 draw by minnows Turkmenistan while Uzbekistan beat Iraq 1-0.
