Stockholm:

Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic won the Golden Ball award as Sweden's Player of the Year on Monday. "I am very proud. It is always fun to win such a prize, to be chosen as Sweden's best player a certain year,'' Ibrahimovic, 24, said in a prerecorded interview broadcast during the Swedish soccer federation's annual televised gala. A native of Malmo, in southern Sweden, Ibrahimovic scored 16 goals in 35 matches for Juventus in his first season in the Italian Serie A. He previously played for Ajax Amsterdam and Malmo FF. "Zlatan has developed into a key player both in his club and national team,'' the prize jury said. "Through talent, hard work and a way of combining the spectacular with what is good for the team, he has become a role model for many youngsters and a golden representative for Swedish football in the world,'' it added. Ibrahimovic's partner in Sweden's attack, Henrik Larsson of FC Barcelona, won a special award as Sweden's best player ever. That award, selected by the public, was presented by UEFA president Lennart Johansson and England great Sir Bobby Charlton. Larsson, 34, transferred to Barcelona after a stellar career in Scotland with Celtic, where he became Europe's top goalscorer in 2000-01 with 53 goals in 50 games. Defender Hanna Marklund of Sunnana, received the Diamond Ball as Sweden's best female player. (AP)
