Jerusalem:

Three Hapoel Beer Sheva soccer team players have been arrested on suspicion they were offered bribes to throw a National League game against Hapoel Raanana, police said on Friday. Police spokeswoman Liat Nidam had no further details. But Ynet, the Web site of the Yediot Ahronot newspaper, identified the three as Yehiel Tsagai, Evyatar Iluz and Miki Atiya. The suspects told police gangsters offered them bribes to throw Saturday's game because of the sports lottery's big 40 million shekel (US$9 million) purse, Israeli media reported. The Israel Football Association said the game was postponed pending police investigation of the affair. Media reported that the sports lottery jackpot was reduced to 10 million shekels (US$2.3 million). (AP)
