London:
Arsenal scored two goals in six minutes on Tuesday to beat Hamburg 3-1 in Group G of the Champions League. Emmanuel Eboue scored in the 83rd to make it 2-1 for last season's finalists after a through ball by substitute Theo Walcott. The Ivory Coast defender cut into the box, held off a tackler and hit a low shot under Stefan Wachter at the Emirates Stadium. Five minutes later, Walcott broke down the right flank and crossed for substitute Julio Baptista to head in his first goal for the Gunners. Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart had scored the opening goal in the fourth minute when he beat defender Kolo Toure and curled the ball past goalkeeper Jens Lehmann and into the top corner. "Unfortunately, it happens now to us that we always concede and have to fight against 10 men defending. We worked hard and we've got what we deserved - it was a vital win for us," Lehmann said. Robin van Persie equalized in the 52nd after clever build-up by Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Cesc Fabregas allowed him to side-foot past Wachter. "They scored a great goal and this time, and we couldn't do a lot about it. After that I feel we've shown great character, great spirit. Overall, it was a great team performance," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. Porto win FC Porto, which beat CSKA Moscow 2-0 in Tuesday's other group game, and Arsenal lead with 10 points each. CSKA has eight points and Hamburg has zero. Arsenal captain Thierry Henry is suspended for the last game at Porto on December 6 after being booked. Hamburg hosts CSKA in the other group match. "That's unfortunate, but we know that it will be a good game for us and I'm confident we can do it. He was frustrated tonight because his shirt was held a lot," Wenger said of Henry's ban.
