Rome:

Veteran AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been given the all clear to resume training following an eye problem.

The 33-year-old World Cup winner has not played in two months due to the problem which has left him with an accentuated squint.

But after meeting a specialist in Bologna, Milan said their combative midfielder is closing in on a return.

"Noticeable progress has been made and the footballer has received the green light to start training with the team," said a statement from Milan.

Gattuso has played only two matches this season, including August's Supercup in China.
