Paris:

France were held to a goalless draw in their World Cup European group four qualifier against the Republic of Ireland in Paris on Saturday. Both teams had plenty of chances, but outstanding work by French goalkeeper Fabien Barthez and Irish goalkeeper Shay Given kept the scoresheet clean. The result left France with just one win from their last four matches, including a scoreless draw against Israel last month. After three matches, France are third in group four on five points, trailing Switzerland and Ireland on goal difference. (AP)
