Liverpool: A resurgent Manchester United coming on the back of three straight wins travelled to Liverpool to take on Everton. But it was Everton who had the first shot on goal, Scott Gemmil forcing Fabien Barthez to pull off a save inside the first 10 minutes. United's first chance came in the 29th minute, with Mikhael Silvester heading a corner over the cross bar.The visitors' best chance of the first half came in the 33rd minute, Ole gunnar Solskjaer turning and shooting, but the Everton keeper pulled off a great save.Everton's best chance of the first half came three minutes before the break, Joe Max Moore with an overhead kick, but Barthez seemed to be in great form.David Beckham, who was on the bench for his fifth straight game, finally came on in the 56th minute. And that decision by Sir Alex Ferguson paid off, as the England captain provided Ryan Giggs with the perfect cross, the Welshman with an easy header to give United the lead after 78 minutes. Eight minutes later, the champions had doubled their lead, Rudd Vaan Nistelrooy with a first time volley off a Giggs cross.Veron had one last chance to put United 3-0 up, but his long-range effort was brilliantly saved by the Everton keeper. United went on to win 2-0 to stay in fifth place with 33 points.
