Rio de Janeiro:

Fluminense has hired coach Oswaldo Oliveira for the rest of the 2006 season. Oliveira, who was coaching in Qatar, will be officially introduced next Friday, Fluminense said Sunday on its Web site. "I'm very happy with this opportunity to coach Fluminense again,'' Oliveira said. The 55-year-old coach led Fluminense to third place in the 2001 Brazilian league. It was Fluminense's best finish in the national competition since it won the title in 1984. Oliveira led Corinthians to the national title in 1999 and the FIFA Club World Championship in 2000. He had previously coached Vasco, Flamengo, Santos and Sao Paulo. Fluminense is in the round of 16 of the Brazilian Cup, but has been eliminated from the Rio de Janeiro state championship. (AP)
