A host of top international players and a selection of the best Portuguese players took part in the Luis Figo All stars match.Luis Figo was given a standing ovation at the Algarve stadium on Monday night, in recognition not only of his foot balling talents but also the charity work carried out through the Luis Figo Foundation. The projects also help children and teenagers in need or suffering from physical or mental disabilities. The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation currently supports more that 25 social projects worldwide with at least one on every continent. These projects use sport as a tool to bring about social change in the community. All the well known faces in football had turned out in support of the match and the two teams were coached by Luis Felipe Scolari and Sir Alex Ferguson. Star attractionsLuis Figo appropriately got proceedings underway, combining with his friend Rui Costa to score the opening goal. The Brazilian who plays for Rio Ave in the Portuguese first division scored with a sweetly struck shot. A number of substitutions were made for the second half. Amongst them Dani who scored twice for Laureus Sport for Good Foundation to give them a 3-1 lead. Spanish sensation Joaquim, who plays for Real Betis pulled a goal back. Hassan made certain. One of the evening's biggest receptions was reserved for Manchester United and England legend, Sir Bobby Charlton. 106 Caps, 49 international goals and now almost seventy years old, Sir Bobby showed touches of old setting up Ally McCoist for a header. The finish couldn't quite match the build up and Figo and Co watching from the bench knew it. Another England favourite rounded off a splendid evening's entertainment with an equaliser on the stroke of full time. Paul Gascoigne showed some of his old brilliance rounding the goalkeeper and celebrating in true "Gazza style". 3-3 it finished.
