Kolkata:

Indian football could soon get a much needed shot in the arm. Representatives of from FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are in the country to inspect football infrastructure and will submit a list of recommendations to the All India Football Federation on steps to make it world class. In football Mecca Kolkata, the AFC team made no bones about the fact that Indian football still has a long way to go. "Winning the LG Cup and winning the World Cup is not the same thing. Just like it is not the same thing to win the LG Cup and the Asian Cup. We must not get carried away by a few flashes," says Dato Paul Mony Samuel, representative of FIFA.

It was, however, not the stick all the way. There are strengths in Indian football that this high level team will identify and present its recommendations to improve upon them. "We will hope to identify the strengths and weaknesses of what is going on. We will make some suggestions and place it in front of the All India Football Federation. And maybe FIFA can come up with some ideas that will be of help," adds Dato. The All India Football Federation will then at least have some fresh ideas to translate into action. Surely no effort should be spared to get Indian football into the world arena.
