FIFA could suspend officials under investigation

Zurich:

FIFA's independent anti-corruption expert says soccer's world governing body should consider suspending officials who are under criminal investigation.

Swiss professor Mark Pieth says the opening of an official probe against FIFA committee members or employees could become a threshold for putting their involvement at FIFA on hold.

Calls have grown for FIFA to tighten its ethics rules following a series of allegations of bribe-taking by senior officials, including executive committee members.

Pieth says it would be up to FIFA to decide whether to accept his proposal included in a report released on Wednesday. But he ruled out investigating past allegations of corruption, which include unethical behavior during World Cup bidding contests.
