Madrid:

A group of disgruntled Atletico Madrid fans invaded the pitch during a club training session near the Spanish capital on Thursday. Angered by the team's poor performances this season, 20 fans hurled insults and threats at players and team officials. Atletico missed out on a European place after gaining only two points from their last six league games and the team was eliminated from the Copa del Rey semi-finals last week by Osasuna. Supporters have demanded the removal of club president Enrique Cerezo and coach Cesar Ferrando. Ferrando's contract was extended for a season last November but Cerezo acknowledged last Tuesday that the decision was a mistake. So a small number of militant supporters interrupted a training session on Thursday. Apparently, 20 members of the radical "Frente Atletico" group shouted insults at players and team officials for several minutes. Goalkeeper Leo Franco and goalkeeping coach Miguel Baston responded in angry exchanges with the supporters. (AP)
