Paris:

European giants England, France, Germany and Italy take center-stage on Wednesday as they fine-tune their Euro 2004 preparations in a full programme of international friendlies. At Ipswich, David Beckham will play his first match on home soil since joining Real Madrid when England takes on Croatia. Elsewhere, Germany face Italy in Stuttgart, European champions France meet Switzerland in Nyon, Scotland go to Norway while Manchester Uniteda€™s new sensation Cristiano Ronaldo is set to make his Portugal debut against Kazakhstan in Chaves. Despite an exhausting Asian tour and then picking up a minor back strain at the weekend, Beckham said he was determined to feature in the match against Croatia especially after being suspended for the last two internationals against Slovakia and Serbia and Montenegro. Beckham is keen to play a major role in England's Euro 2004 qualifying campaign which resumes next month against Group Seven opponents Macedonia and Liechtenstein. "Everyone knows it's been a busy couple of weeks for me but it's important I get back playing for my country," Beckham said. "Whether it be a friendly or a qualifying game, it's important for me to be here." In Stuttgart, old rivals Germany and Italy go head-to-head with German coach Rudi Vohler forced to name a patched-up team. (PTI)
