Madrid:

Espanyol has signed Flamengo captain Jonatas Domingos on a four-year contract pending a routine medical. On Tuesday, Espanyol said it will pay the buyout clause in Jonatas' contract with Flamengo, reportedly set at $2.6 million. Flamengo was said to be due 65 per cent of the fee, while the club which discovered the player, Tombense, will be paid the rest. The 24-year-old midfielder, who helped Flamengo lift the Brazilian Cup last month, won his first international call up from new Brazil coach Dunga for the friendly with Norway on August 16. Espanyol won last season's Copa del Rey but narrowly avoided relegation. The club has since appointed coach Ernesto Valverde and signed Valencia's Francisco Perez Rufete, Osasuna's Moha El Yaagoubi and Athletic Bilbao's Jesus Maria Lacruz. (AP)
