Uruguay striker Walter Pandiani is set to join Espanyol from Birmingham City, news reports said Wednesday, citing the Spanish club's president Daniel Sanchez Llibre. Pandiani is expected to sign a 2 1/2 year contract, with Birmingham receiving a $1.8 million fee for the 29-year-old. Birmingham signed Pandiani for $5.3 million in the offseason after he spent six months on loan from Deportivo La Coruna. The striker, who would be Espanyol's first signing during this month's transfer window, previously played for Penarol and Mallorca. Espanyol is 14th in the 20-team Spanish first division, with 18 points from 18 games. (AP)
