England striker Michael Owen says the team is lucky to have Sven-Goran Eriksson as its coach. Eriksson's tangled private life has been under scrutiny after revelations that he had a secret relationship with television celebrity Ulrika Jonsson, who published further details in her kiss-and-tell memoirs this week. The mild-mannered Swede, who lives with long-time Italian girlfriend Nancy Dell 'Olio, dislikes the intense prying into his love life. It was widely reported that the media frenzy could force him to quit - particularly if England's Euro 2004 qualifying campaign started badly. But England pulled out a 2-1 come-from-behind win in Slovakia on Saturday and should pick up three more points against Macedonia on Wednesday in Southampton. Owen, who scored the winning goal in Bratislava, said the players were aware of Jonsson's book but were determined to play well for Eriksson a€" the first foreigner to coach England's national side. "From the players' point of view, there aren't too many better managers around in the world,'' Owen said. "For a football-crazy country which hasn't won anything since 1966, we should be proud to get a manager of his high quality. He is important to us". (AP)
