Kolkata:

Recharged by some well-earned rest from gruelling match schedules and boosted with the success against Singapore's Geylang United Football Club, East Bengal seem all geared up to log full points against Negri Sembilan of Malysia in an AFC Cup outing tomorrow. The red and gold brigade, who beat Geylang 1-0 in the away tie at Singapore in their Cup lung-opener, are looking to consolidate the advantage with another victory in tomorrow's home match. "Two back-to-back wins in early matches will put us on the right course to a quarter final berth," coach Subhas Bhowmick said. Exuding oodles of confidence, Bhowmick said that his charges were now in fine shape. "During the last one month we have played only two matches. The rest has done wonders to the boys. They are now physically and mentally rejuvenated". Bhowmick was banking heavily on the awesome form of his upfronters -- Baichung Bhutia and the lethal Brazilian Christiano Junior -- to pull it off against Negri, who picked up a huge 6-0 triumph against Island FC of Maldeeves in their first Cup match. Bhowmick, who considered Gaylang a more formidable opponent than Negri, however, acknowledged that the Malaysians could not be written off. (PTI)
