East Bengal will be licking their wounds from Wednesday's loss to Mahindra United, knowing their chance for domestic glory is no longer in their own hands. The 1-0 result means that East Bengal remain third with Mahindra United in fourth place in the NFL standings. Coach Subhas Bhowmick was very upset with his team's display, saying they did not deserve to win. The National Football League has so far been dominated by teams from Kolkata, with six of the last eight titles going to them. Such has been the dominance that the last five titles have been won by either East Bengal or Mohan Bagan. However, this time around, there seems to be a shift in power. Goan clubs Dempo and Sporting Club are at the top of the table with one of them likely to win their first NFL. With six teams in the current top ten of the standings originating from Goa, it might be time for Kolkata to admit that Indian football might have found a new home.
