Kolkata: East Bengal players are making full use of the services of their new physical trainer, Peter McKnight from England. McKnight, who has been associated with the Women's FA team of England, has entered a six-week contract with the red and gold brigade. "I am focussing on strength and conditioning exercises. The coach will look after the playing part and I will concentrate on the fitness part of it. We will try and make the players less prone to injuries," he says. Mcknight is only the second overseas physical trainer recruited by East Bengal. And he believes that the fitness is the only factor that separates the Indian footballers from their European counterparts. Even the coach, Subhash Bhowmick, believes that physical training has become an integral part of a teams overall preparations. East Bengal had hired South Africa born Kevin Jackson last season and they won the National football league, and became the first Indian club to win the Asean championship. And hopefully the hiring of Peter McKnight will bring in more trophies in the up coming season.
