Dunga won't be fired: Teixeira

Sao Paulo:

Dunga will not be fired even if Brazil disappoints in this year's Copa America, the president of the Brazilian soccer confederation said on Wednesday.

"The Copa America is important, but Dunga's job won't be analyzed based on it," Ricardo Teixeira told Globo TV. "It never served as a test to any coach."

The South American championship in June and July in Venezuela will be Brazil's first official competition with Dunga in command.

The manager said he wants the squad at full strength, but some of his regulars may skip the competition, which follows the European season.

Dunga has had a successful start with Brazil, winning seven matches, including 3-0 against South American rival Argentina and 4-0 against Chile. It drew 1-1 with Norway and lost to Portugal 2-0.

Brazil will play England on June 1 at the rebuilt Wembley Stadium in London.

Brazil's captain when it won the 1994 World Cup in the United States, Dunga replaced Carlos Alberto Parreira after Brazil was eliminated from the World Cup quarterfinals with a 1-0 loss to eventual runner-up France.

Brazil won the Copa America's last edition, in Peru.
