Madrid:

Deportivo La Coruna signed forward Sebastian Taborda from Uruguay's Defensor on Wednesday, the deadline for offseason transfers. Taborda, who signed a four-year contract, will replace Spain international Albert Luque, who joined Newcastle last week. "Talks began with Deportivo two months ago and so I'm not surprised by my transfer. What has surprised me is that the agreement has come on the last day,'' Taborda was quoted as saying by news agency Efe. No financial details of the transfer were available. Taborda is the third player to join Deportivo this summer. Canadian midfielder Julian de Guzman and central defender Juanma Delgado have arrived from Hannover and Racing Santander respectively. Deportivo beat Mallorca 1-0 on Sunday in its first Spanish league game under coach Joaquin Caparros, who replaced veteran Javier Irureta in the summer. Irureta left the club after seven years in May.(AP)
