La Coruna: Celta Vigo dropped down to third place from the top in the Spanish first division following a thrilling 2-2 draw against Deportivo. Vigo, who were yet to concede a league goal until Sunday night's Galician derby, took a 2-0 lead through strikes from Berizzo and Edu. However, a Juanfran own goal and a Pandiani penalty salvaged the match - and a point - for Deportivo.Deportivo played host to Celta Vigo in the Galician derby knowing victory would take them to the top of the table. Celta were the current leaders and yet to concede a goal in the league. But Deportivo held some confidence as their opponents defence had taken a knocking mid-week when they conceded four goals in their UEFA Cup second leg against Czech side Sigma Olomouc. The home side started well. As early as the second minute, Deportivo managed to break the Celta defence. But goalkeeper Cavallero was across the ball and safely collected it.Four minutes later Celta also came close, but Catanha's shot from just inside the area was pushed away by goalkeeper Molina.Deportivo's best chance of the half came in the 20th minute. They would have broken the deadlock but for some great defensive play by Berizzo.Diego Tristan had beaten the goalkeeper but Berizzo made a last gasp move that just cleared the ball from the line.Two minutes later Deportivo were to pay for that missed opportunity when Celta took the lead from a header by Berizzo.With Celta holding a 1-0 lead up to half-time, the Deportivo players were left shell-shocked 10 minutes into the second-half when Manuel Pablo, Spain's right-back, suffered an horrific ankle injury following a fair challenge by Everton Giovanella and had to be taken off the field on a stretcher.Then to add to Deportivo's woes in the 68th minute Celta doubled their lead when Edu fired the ball past Molina from the edge of the area, his second league goal of the season.But Deportivo had not given in. Less than two minutes later the home side found the back of the net from a Fran free-kick, although it was clear the goal was produced from a deflection off Juanfran, a Celta defender.Ten minutes later Deportivo made it honours even when Berizzo knocked over Lionel Scaloni inside the area. Deportivo were awarded a penalty and the Uruguayan Walter Pandiani safely put the ball in the back of the net. With a 2-2 scoreline at the final whistle, Celta move down to third position in the Spanish League. Real Betis is holding the top spot while Deportivo is placed fifth.
