Split:

Croatia held world champions Brazil to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night in an international friendly played in Split. Both countries fielded full-strength line-ups as they warmed up for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers in September. Croatia almost registered the game's opening goal less than 10 minutes into the contest when Darijo Srna found space just inside the penalty area and fired a shot that went just wide of the left goal post. Spectacular save Former World Footballer of the Year Ronaldo almost put the visitors ahead in the 14th minute when he sneaked in behind the home defence only to be denied by a spectacular save by Croatian goalkeeper Tomislav Butina. Croatia's Niko Kranjcar broke the deadlock on 32 minutes after seizing on a mistake by Brazilian goalkeeper Dida. The AC Milan keeper carelessly passed to Juan and, in an instant, Ivica Olic was there to pounce on the loose ball, unleashing a shot which hit the post before Kranjcar swooped in for the rebound. Ten minutes later, the world champions levelled the contest at 1-1 when Ricardinho's superb left foot free-kick from just outside the penalty area hit the underside of the crossbar on it's way into the net. Big-name strikers In the second half, Brazil's two big-name strikers had opportunities to put their team ahead. Ronaldo, for the second time in the match, only had the goalkeeper to beat but his poor strike in the 57th minute went wide of the left goal post. Eleven minutes later, Adriano failed to capitalise on an open goal and his woeful strike from two metres out rolled off the outside of his boot, on to the right post and out of play. Croatia's substitute striker Bosko Balaban also squandered a potential game-winning chance when he failed to switch to his left foot from five metres out and stubbed the ball wide with his right.
