Copa America stadiums' work on schedule: Venezuela

Caracas:

Construction at the nine soccer stadiums for next year's Copa America will be finished on time and according to plan, Venezuela Sports Minister Aristobulo Isturiz said. All the stadiums will be inspected in late January by a delegation from the South American Football Confederation, Isturiz said Wednesday, adding he was confident the delegation would sign off on progress to date. "According to the timeline we have, the nine stadiums will be ready and much sooner than the established dates," Isturiz said. All work on the stadiums is to be completed by an April 1 deadline. Venezuela will host its first Copa America from June 26 to July 15. CONMEBOL announced that the draw will be held February 6, but Isturiz said the draw could be on either February 8 or 14. The Venezuelan Football Federation said on Thursday that a date has not yet been set. Organizers expect nearly 500,000 visitors for the Copa America.
