London: Chelsea defender Ashley Cole does not need surgery for a knee injury and likely will return before the end of the season, his club said Thursday. Cole was carried off the field during Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Blackburn amid fears the England international could be sidelined for the rest of the season. But a scan on Thursday had better news for the Premier League champion. "It was confirmed that surgery was not necessary on the posterior cruciate ligament injury and so it is expected he will play again this season," Chelsea said in a statement on its Web site. It did not elaborate. Chelsea captain John Terry will return for Saturday's league match against Charlton after missing 13 games because of injuries. The England captain has recovered from back surgery and a calf muscle problem that delayed his comeback.
