New England Revolution midfielder Clint Dempsey was presented with the 2006 Honda Player of the Year Award on Tuesday, as the best player on the US National Soccer Team as chosen by the American sports media. Dempsey beat off competition from Borussia Moenchengladbach goalkeeper Kasey Keller and Fulham striker Brian McBride to take the award and the 23 year-old becomes the 12th player to win the Honda Trophy in its 16-year history. Dempsey received 237 points in voting by the 207 journalists who participated in the balloting. Keller finished second with 184, with McBride on 127. (AP)
