London:

Chelsea shrugged off its failure to reach the Champions League final by staging a blue carnival at Stamford Bridge today after collecting the league championship trophy for the first time in 50 years. Manager Jose Mourinho kissed the gleaming Premier League trophy and said his goal was winning it again next season. Chelsea had already clinched the title by beating Bolton last Saturday, but the trophy presentation was held back until after Saturday's home match. In between, Chelsea lost to Liverpool in the Champions League and tumbled out of the competition's semi-finals for the second straight season. The championship celebrations began after Claude Makelele scored his first goal for the Blues in the second minute of injury time in a 1-0 victory over Charlton - Chelsea's 27th shutout victory of the season in all competitions. Although his penalty was blocked, he followed up to score from the rebound. (AP)
