New Delhi:

An opportunistic long-ranger by H L Malsoma helped BSL IV High School, Bokaro, Jharkhand lift the 42nd Subroto Mukherjee Cup (Junior Division), defeating Apex Public School, Delhi by a solitary goal here today.A weak clearance by Apex full back Ningthoumgamba in the 23rd minute went to Malsoma, prowling unmarked outside the Apex box, who blasted a power shot from 25 metres into the far-post with the goalkeeper caught in no man's land.Except for the scoreline, which looked respectable, thanks to disastrous finish by the champions, the local boys were no match to their superior opponents. The Bokaro attack line consisting of tournament's top scorer Lalchauan Mawia, Gaurango Biswas and H L Malsoma and Vanlal Mawia came out firing on all cylinders from the start of the match forcing the Apex team on the back foot. The boys from Jharkhand wasted at least seven chances to score in the first half, including a 27th minute sitter by PC Vanlalmuankima which hit the side post. The Apex boys came close to scoring only in the injury time when left out Biswanath Sarkar dribbled past two BSL defenders to cross the ball in the box, only for Subroto Baidya to miss it completely. The same pattern followed in the second half as well with the ball moving around in the Apex half for the majority of the period. The local boys tried to step up the pressure in the last 10 minutes of the game with clever down the line passes but failed to register anything on the scoreboard, losing the final 0-1.
