Braunschweig:

Second division Eintracht Braunschweig fought back from a goal down to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1 in the first round of the German Cup on Monday. The first half hour belonged to the visitors and it was no surprise when they took the lead after 28 minutes. Dortmund's giant striker Jan Koller put the former European champions ahead with a smart turn and fierce shot. Slack defenceBut a few minutes later the floodlights failed, and Dortmund seemed to lose their way when the game restarted. Five minutes before half-time, some slack defending gave Juergen Rische the chance to rise unchallenged and head home Daniel Graf's pinpoint cross from the left. The seconds half was a tight affair with few chances.Just when it looked as if the match was heading for deadlock and with seven minutes left on the clock, the second division side scored a dramatic winner. Graf seemed to step on the ball when it came to him in front of goal, but he managed to readjust and stab it home to give Braunschweig a famous victory. Thus, it was a poor start to the season for Borussia, who say goodbye to their Cup hopes after picking up just one point from their first two Bundesliga games. (AP)
