David Beckham's move to the Los Angeles Galaxy should lure more big names to Major League Soccer, FIFA president Sepp Blatter said on Saturday.

"It will definitely help the MLS because American sports organizations, sports leagues, they're all based on stars," Blatter said at a news conference for the CONCACAF congress. "(The MLS) haven't had so many stars.

"The impact Beckham has made just by the announcement and the arrival and going to California, I'm sure that there can be other players following this example and this will give a boost to the MLS."

The Real Madrid midfielder is expected to join the Galaxy this summer on a five-year contract.

The former England captain will make $6.5 million this year in guaranteed income, more than 50 times the average MLS salary.

The CONCACAF congress, a meeting of delegates from the confederation that covers North and Central America and the Caribbean, coincided with the official opening of BMO Field. The 20,000-seat stadium is home to the MLS expansion team Toronto FC and will host the world under-20 championship this summer.
