Kolkata:

Soccer star Bhaichung Bhutia is recovering from an arthoscopy for a torn cartilage. He will begin training two weeks from now and is hoping to be fit for India's last pre-World Cup match against Oman on October 22. "I will start training after two weeks. And I hope to play India's last World Cup qualifier," he told reporters in Kolkata. The Indian captain, who sustained the damage during the LG Cup in Vietnam in August, had undergone arthoscopy on his left knee. After this he was ruled out of the World Cup qualifier against Japan here on September 8 after being advised rest for three to six weeks. He also had to opt out of East Bengal's AFC Cup quarterfinal against Syrian outfit Al Jaish on September 15 and the upcoming away game in Damascus on September 22. "I'm improving. My condition is getting better and better," he said last night on the sidelines of a function. (PTI)
