Sydney:

England soccer star David Beckham will play for his new American club, the LA Galaxy, in a one-off match against Australia's Sydney FC in Sydney on November 27, Football Federation Australia said.

FFA chief executive Ben Buckley said assurances had been received from the Galaxy that Beckham would play in the match, or that the match would be rescheduled if the former England captain was injured or unavailable.

"We've got certain guarantees in place that he will be playing," Buckley said. "If David happens to get injured or feels ill, the match can be postponed to a later date."

The match will be Beckham's first for the Galaxy outside North America and the visit will be his first to Australia.

Galaxy debut

He is expected to make his Galaxy debut in a friendly match against England's Chelsea on July 21.

Beckham, 32, has been one of the most marketable figures in world soccer during his career with England, Manchester United and Real Madrid.

He helped Real win Spain's premier soccer league this season, after signing to join the Galaxy in a deal which could yield as much as $250 million in payments and endorsements over five years.

The match against Australian A-league heavyweights Sydney will be played at Sydney's 80,000-seat Telstra Stadium, which is expected to be filled to capacity.
