Paris:

A David Beckham-inspired England win was one of the highlights of a host of international friendlies. Beckham marked his first game on home turf since moving to Real Madrid with a first half penalty to lift Sven-Goran Eriksson's side to a 3-1 success over Croatia. The England coach was thrilled with his captain's showing. "David (Beckham) was inspirational," Eriksson said. "His delivery is always top class and that is why he was signed by Real Madrid. It was good to see him back in England as he is very proud to be the captain". In Stuttgart, Italy shaded last year's World Cup finalists, Germany, with a goal from Inter Milan striker Christian Vieri to supply former Bayern Munich coach Giovanni Trapattoni a welcome return to German soil. European champions France, plain sailing through their Euro 2004 qualification group, carved out a comfortable 2-0 win against Switzerland in Geneva. (PTI)
